| In November 2005 UCLA’s Hammer Museum and the Museum of Contemporary Art opened the Masters of American Comics exhibition which, in the words of the official website, sought to “establish a canon of fifteen of the most influential artists working in the medium throughout the twentieth century.” An expansive and successful exhibition scheduled to begin traveling nationwide in April 2006, Masters of American Comics is indicative of the growth in serious critical attention afforded to comics as an art form. However, a canon of fifteen artists, like any other list, cannot help but be limited and incomplete.
Eye Trauma Comix seeks to continue and expand upon the work of Masters. We curate exhibitions which showcase in the gallery setting areas of sequential art that might otherwise be overlooked or underappreciated. |
